SOBs Info Notes (plus info on September Silver City ride)
The Silver City special event is going to be September 12 - 16, 2011. Monday the 12th is a travel day to Silver City with the first day of riding being Tuesday the 13th.
You will need to arrange your own accommodations. Here are some suggestion:
Holiday Inn Express, if we want to stay in a national chain with the benefits that brings (breakfast, clean rooms, air-conditioning) It is slightly out of town, and the rooms (if we request a block are $90 plus tax, rather than the standard rate of $115)
Palace Hotel, if we want to stay in a place downtown that is historic and sort of cute and also serves breakfast (continental), but is not air-conditioned (rates range from $51 to $82 per night plus tax and you could get a 10% discount
Inn on Broadway, but it has only four rooms that range in price from $120 to $150 and they don't give discounts
Bear Mountain Lodge three miles north of town, which has 11 rooms, but they are booked on September 16. Their rates are $110 to $140 Tuesday to Thursday Bear Mountain Lodge also recommended the Bear Creek Cabins, which have upstairs and downstairs, so people might want to pair up, and their rates are in the $130 to $180 range
Motel 6
Econolodge
The web sites for places you can view are:: http://www.silvercity.org/SIC_list.php?SIC=7200 .
Proposed ride schedule:
day 1, ride to the Gila Cliff Dwellings (91 miles) it is possible to turn around earlier
day 2, going west/northwest to Cliff, Box Canyon, or Buckhorn (56 miles, 70 miles, and 73 miles)
day 3, doing the inner Gila loop (77 miles)
day 4, ride to the continental divide (44 miles)
These rides can be viewed on the map with description at:http://www.silvercity.org/activ_bicycling_guide.php , and profiles of the first three can be seen athttp://www.tourofthegila.com/racecourses.html .
Good restaurants include:
Diane' (downtown, described as fine, casual dining)
Jalisco (Mexican downtown)
Buckhorn (steaks etc. in Pinos Altos)
Shevik (Mediterranean/continental, downtown)
1zero6 (rated number 1 at trip advisor)
Curious Kumquat (rated 2).
Shevik, Diane's, and Jalisco are 3, 4, and 5. The Buckhorn is not rated because it is the only restaurant in Pinos Altos.
